I have started writing what would be a regular column for Muslim Views, a newspaper based in Cape Town. The column will deal specifically with global issues that affect Islam and the Muslim world, and muslim-majority countries like Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Malaysia and Indonesia, and, of course, the people of Palestine. I will not write on Islam or religious matters. Those are beyond my purview, and of my brief. I will write about what I know best; global political economy, global politics, geo-politics and geo-strategic matters. I am not conspiratorial. I believe, that rest of the world (especially the Global South) is not safe from the machinations of countries that want to destabilise or destroy muslim-majority countries (as they did in Iraq and Libya), and countries in Latin America, Africa and Asia – not forgetting NATO’s war against Yugoslavia. The column will, then, incorporate many aspects of this (so far) calamitous 21st century world.
