I really should write more… Because of the difficulty, and mainly because of time constraints, I really don’t have the time to study meticulously the light-measuring systems and multiple focus modes of digital cameras. Then again, I’m too wedded to old-fashioned manual film photography. In the meantime, I have attempted to use the Nikon X6ii to shoot almost exclusively in black and white – and manually. With this I have been applying some of the old techniques that we used with black and white film. I always miss the graininess of KodakTriX film. We work with what we have…. I tried, with the picture (above) a type of chiaroscuro to emphasise the woman’s presence in the light and dark of her surroundings especially the foreground, all of which situates her – in Siti Khadijah Market in Kota Bharu, in the Malaysian state of Kelantan, as it goes.
