I am making more time to know the “post-production” part of film-making. That sounds a bit too glamorous, “filmmaking”, it’s more like knowing what to do, technically, with video I record. It has been a slow process, given that my days are spent writing my columns (to feed, clothe and to gimme shelter).
The post-production process is a lot more complicated than I envisaged. I guess I knew that, given my long interest in cinema. I just never imagined that I would turn to “filmmaking”.
I have sporadically make little video clips over the past few years, never with documentary or scripted dramatic intent. I expect to do it all more purposefully in the coming months, especially from about January, when I start on the next “big” writing project. This is the latest “experimental” clip, shot at the beach of my village in the Western Cape
Plans are falling into place for traveling to South East Asia again in January – if the money and all the plans come together. That’s when I should test my video-making skills. I’m not sure I want to do a “vlog”; can’t imaging taking into the camera, or placing myself at the centre of things. I am considering some kind of political economic/current affairs profile drawing on my professional experience and insights. That may require a bit too much of a financial investment in equipment. Time will tell.
