I am a bit disappointed that there is a growing distance between my use of the iPhone and my DSLR for photography. The DSLR is clearly a much better, much more flexible and technically more adaptable which allows for greater creativity, than the iPhone. But, the phone is more convenient; I have it with me all the time. The problem is, of course, that I spend less time doing photographic projects, so to speak. What tends to happen is that I often see things on my meanderings and make pictures.
Below is an example of a perfect moment I captured at the oyster bar at Mojo Market in Seapoint, Cape Town.

If it were not for the iPhone’s camera, I would use a cheaper phone. The iPhone produces better quality, and I like the hipstamatic app…. I am a long way from abandoning my DSLR. For now, I will keep shooting…
Below are three pictures I made and altered with some of the filters that come with the iPhone. Maybe someday Nikon will make a DLSR with filter options. Nonetheless, I still prefer simple (grainy) black and white photographs, especially the quality and flexibility we enjoyed with TriX film.
