In about a month from now I will set out and head east again. I will continue to write my weekly columns for Business Day, Daily Maverick and VryeWeekblad, but this next adventure will be special. It is something I have been wanting to do for a very long time. While I have visited the countries and region, in general, a few times in the past this time will be different. Also, for the first time in many years, I am purposefully packing my photographic equipment.

There are some administrative hurdles and protocol issues that have to be resolved. These are, for now, beyond my control. I should know in the coming weeks. Whatever the outcome, I fly to Western Asia on 6 July, and then onwards…
